4 Reasons To Consider Rewiring Your Home

Are you having trouble with your electrical system? Or have you recently moved into a new home and are unsure how old its electrical wiring is? Either way, you need to understand that old or faulty wiring isn't only risky for you and your loved ones but could also significantly reduce your home's value. Below are four reasons for doing home rewiring.

To Enhance Safety

Have you noticed some form of discoloration on your switches or outlets? In most cases, that's a sign of faulty wiring or insulation loss around a wire. If your home is old, chances are the wiring is done using thinner wires which may overheat and cause fires if used with modern home appliances. The rubber insulation in most old home's wiring systems is also prone to degrading and cracking, bringing severe implications like electrocutions.

With home rewiring, you can correct all the electrical faults in your home. It's important to inform your electrician about the appliances you want to operate simultaneously so they can rewire your home to handle the load. This allows you to use your appliances without compromising your safety.

To Boost Your Home's Resale Value

Home rewiring significantly increases your home's value. A prospective buyer knows they'll be safe in your home and are willing to match your price demands.

After rewiring your home, it's advisable to save all paperwork relating to the service. If the electrical company has offered a warranty, pass it on to the new buyer. That way, if an electrical issue arises in the future, they can contact the electrical company.

To Install Alternate Energy Sources

If you have been thinking about lowering your energy bills, you may consider investing in alternate energy sources like solar. However, your current electrical wiring may not properly integrate with the new system.

To make the transition easier, consider doing full-house wiring. If you're switching to solar energy, you get to install solar cables and wires for a smooth transition.

To Increase Service Capacity

Due to advancements in technology, modern homes have higher power requirements than old homes. You expect your electrical systems to handle your widescreen television, large refrigerator, desktop computer, washing machine, high-speed internet, and other appliances.

To handle the increasing energy demands, you can increase your electrical system's service capacity from 100 amp to 200 amp. If your home is old, it may even have a service capacity of 60 amp, which isn't enough to handle modern appliances and outlets.

As your electrician upgrades the service capacity, you can also ask them to add a larger circuit breaker box, so if you decide to make further improvements, you'll have open boxes for new circuits.
